Our Story

July 3rd 2004, we were driving to work at Zuni Cafe in San Francisco when we passed by the foot of crooked Lombard St.  People were milling about and the weather was gorgeous- the perfect place for a lemonade stand, we joked.

Throughout the evening at work our joke turned into a business plan.  The next morning we woke up, grabbed a table (two sawhorses and Cliff's bathroom door), some lemons, sugar, bottled water, cups and ice.  That day we sold a ton of lemonade, hand squeezed to order, for only a dollar.  Our business that day was quietly disassembled after an elementary school lemonade stand opend catty-corner but we ended up profiting (about $1 after our Safeway invoices were paid) and met some great people.

Over a year later we met a guy who talked of this place called "Capitola."  We had never heard of this magical place leagues away from our roots in Cleveland and Panama but decided to borrow Shannon's car (with her in it) and check it out.  Days later we decided it would be a good place to set up our big fermented grape juice stand.  We used the same lemonade stand concept: Build it, don't rip people off too much, and have a good time.
